What You Should Know Regarding Hail This Morning in Baldwin City
Good morning Baldwin City! We just experienced a small amount of hail. It was roughly quarter sized, with some ping pong size mixed in, and was brief. Most everyone will be just fine, but some folks who have older more brittle asphalt shingle roofs may possibly have suffered some damage.
If you are concerned and would like a FREE EVALUATION to make sure your roof is okay, please reach out! We are Baldwin City's very own roofing and siding company with extensive experience on insurance restoration.
With hail recorded in the community, there will be "storm chasers" coming from all around to knock on your doors and try to take advantage of you and your insurance company. It's been a slow year for hail, so no doubt they will be chomping at the bit.
When it comes to the insurance side of my industry, it is basically organized crime. It is VERY bad these days! Here are a few tips to protect yourself no matter who you hire if needed:
1. Always get at least 2-3 opinions before signing anything. Most roof sales reps are trained in high pressure sales techniques to push you into contracts on the spot. Do not fall for this!
2. Make any contractor you consider provide a legitimate estimate! This is so important! Most roof sales reps refuse to write estimates for two reasons:
A: They don't know how to estimate construction costs, they are only trained in how to get people to sign contracts. They ask for the "insurance paperwork" and "work off of that" for "insurance proceeds". You need a hard number estimate and contract, not a moving goalpost!
B: They are afraid they might "leave money on the table" if their estimate comes in lower than what insurance has proposed.
Either way requiring an estimate immediately weeds out the bad apples and makes sure you're working with someone with actual roofing and construction knowledge who can provide a legitimate estimate.
