At Hometown Construction, we spend our days helping people protect and improve one of their greatest investments: their homes.

Over the years, we've learned something important. The strongest homes are built on strong foundations.

The same is true for communities.

Recently, we learned about a proposal that would significantly reduce the City's financial partnership with the Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce. While we understand that every city must make difficult budget decisions, we also believe every investment should be evaluated by the value it creates. From our perspective, the Chamber has created tremendous value for Baldwin City.

This isn't simply about one organization.

It's about the partnerships that bring businesses, schools, nonprofits, volunteers, and community leaders together to accomplish things none of us could accomplish alone.

Our Story

When Hometown Construction joined the Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce, we were a young company trying to earn the trust of our community.

The Chamber welcomed us, introduced us to other business owners, connected us with local organizations, and gave us opportunities to become involved. Those relationships helped our business grow, but they also changed the way we viewed our role in Baldwin City.

As our company has grown, we've made it a priority to give back more each year. We've proudly supported our schools, youth athletics, nonprofit organizations, community events, and many other local initiatives because we believe successful businesses have a responsibility to invest in the communities that support them.

Looking back, we can honestly say that much of that journey began with the Chamber.

The Chamber never told us we had to become involved. It simply created an environment where giving back became a natural part of being a member of this community.

Why This Matters

The value of the Chamber extends well beyond networking events or ribbon cuttings.

It helps welcome new businesses, supports existing ones, promotes tourism, organizes community events, connects volunteers with organizations that need them, and strengthens relationships throughout Baldwin City.

Many of the things we enjoy as residents don't simply happen on their own. They happen because people are willing to invest their time, resources, and leadership into making Baldwin City a place people are proud to call home.

One of the lessons we've learned as business owners is that success carries responsibility.

We respect the difficult decisions our elected officials face, and we appreciate their willingness to serve our community.

At the same time, we hope this proposal is carefully reconsidered. Investments that strengthen local businesses, encourage community involvement, and build long-term partnerships often produce returns that are difficult to capture in a budget spreadsheet, but they are visible throughout our town every day.
